History

Originally started as a Community Sale and Trade Day on July  3rd 1893 and operated by the City of Ripley.  First Monday was originally located on the downtown square of Ripley,  In the early 50’s, the sale outgrew the space limitations of the downtown area and moved the waterworks plant located the the intersection of Hwy. 4 and Hwy. 15.  by the Late 50’s the sale again outgrew the space limitations and was relocated to the Tippah County Fairgrounds where it remained until 1976.  During this time, the City choose to no longer operate the market.  Wayne Windham had the property across Hwy. 15 and took steps to move the market to it’s current location and setup the infrastructure to manage the parking, restrooms, camping and the relaxed, neighborly atmosphere of Buying, Selling and Trading.
